We met The Genuine a few years ago when they came to Charlotte to play in the background of a scene in our film, HIM+HER. They had a great performance and we knew right away that we wanted to work with this amazing band. We offered to make a music video for them, and after we finally aligned our schedules (and with help from our friends at Camp North End in Charlotte) we were able to set up a performance video shoot.
The band wanted this to be a live performance, but knew we wanted to shoot multiple camera angles. The compromise was to record the track live, and then use that track as playback for shooting each different angle. The band only needed three takes to get a performance they were happy with, and then we got to work shooting wide shots, extreme wide shots, and then medium and close-up shots of each musician. We shot on the Sony Alpha a7SII with Canon glass at 24 frames per second in 4K resolution.
We had so much fun putting this together, and we’re looking forward to the next video, which will be more of a narrative story instead of a live performance. Either way, as long as this band is rocking out sweet tunes, we’ll be there!
